Hi everyone! I know this is a sensitive topic. Please do not be rude or judgmental to those who share. I personally am asexual and would like to know if aphantasia has any effect whatsoever on sexuality. Please be kind. Thanks for sharing!

I'm a panromantic asexual. :)

I'm pretty wishy washy because I'm moreso willing to go with the flow, but I'm a pansexual for the most part with a preference for males (although sometimes I prefer females). I also can have certain random times where I feel really aromantic (and then other times when I'm super affectionate, but that may just be being a teenager).

I would say half way between Heterosexual and Asexual. Which translates to an awkward and late developed heterosexual, like Sheldon Cooper or the movie "40 year old virgin".

I have noticed that there are a lot of people on the Asexual sites claiming to have Aphantasia. Does anybody know if there has been any research regarding this? Is there a correlation?

@Marlow1 I've identified as asexual for a long while because that was the label that seemed to fit me best! (Now I just go by "I have no clue" lol) I've been on AVEN but I haven't seen/ looked into posts about aphantasia. It makes sense though! Humans are visual creatures (at least that's what everyone else keeps saying lol) so if one can't "see" oneself doing "hot" things with someone else, then how is one to get turned on by the sight of said someone else? This is all so interesting!!! I would also love to see if there's been any research.

Hello Robotunicorn

I know my posts are brief but I find it so hard to talk about this. I am so very thankful for your reply!!!!

I have been looking at asexual and demisexual articles. And I feel that I maybe somewhere in the middle. I do think I can be attracted to just one person, and one person alone, if I know them very well. I do not like porn at all and I do not get attracted to characters on TV. I do not get attracted to strangers. Folk insist that I should be more like the usual crowd, but I dont know how to be. I really do wonder if this is related to my Aphantasia????? It does feel it could be. I dont know much about Demisexuality, this is all new to me. I have studied Asexuality a little over time. I have read only one percent of the population claim to be this way, but here, on the crowd survey, a small sample suggests maybe 15%, I think???? This does suggest there could be a correlation, but would like to know how others feel about all this??? Again, thank you for sharing Robotunicorn, this is so very appreciated

i've never felt romantic attraction or any desire to actually have sex with anyone, but i don't consider myself asexual. it's just that i'm more interested in porn than actual persons.

I sort of think of myself the same way, Erik; but in my case, it's probably because of my age. I just don't want to be bothered with the pursuit anymore, it's too much work.

I'm bisexual-asexual

And I feel this comes from my aphantasia , because I can't imagine what sex feels like and I can't remember the emotions I felt when I do it , I don't really have a want or need to have sex (after the new and exciting times finish) about after the first 2 months of a relationship.

Hello Kc99

I have recently joined this site below. There is a poll there that shows that about 40% of its members that participated said that they have Aphantasia. The site has helped me understand a lot of what is going on for me.

asexuality.org/

Please do share more of your story with us here at the Aphant.asia site. I too will share more when I get a minute. I can't post much right now, I am taking care of a relative that is poorly. But this kind or correlation, I find it fascinating

Bye for now

Thanks for the link Marlow1 I'll check it out.

I think me being asexual or demisexual stems from me not being about to remember the feeling of sex .. or the emotions of it .. I enjoy it once it is happening and I do feel attractions to people but after about the 2 month mark of a relationship I become less interested in sex because there is not as much excitement in experiencing something new, it just becomes boring and I don't feel a desire to have sex and I'd much rather just continue the relationship without sex , I still feel the emotional attachment to that person so I don't want the relationship to stop just the sexual side of it... I enjoy watching porn more then having sex aswell not to sure why though.

If you have any questions fell free to ask :) and let me know your experiences to :)

Hi Kc99

I feel fortunate to have aphantasia and to be demisexual too. When I see all the hassle many of my visual friends have in regards to relationships I think the simplicity I experience is a blessing

This article here mirrors some of my experience

www.vice.com/en_us/article/kwkway/what-i...nd-lovers-looks-like

I can understand what you mean when you say you loose desire. I am fortunate that in this relationship I am on now I definitely have not done so. But when I do not have a partner I do not have desire then at all. It is as if I do need to be deeply in love to feel attraction and even desire. It does stay for me though, or at least it has this time

I do so love the AVEN site, their way of explaining things, has helped me understand better myself and my partner, whom incidently scored 40 out of 40 on the BBC aphantasia site. I scored zero. I have total aphantasia, not even the narrators voice that others with aphantasia folk describe

This opposites attract thing is discussed at AVEN. Some say we are tuning into each other's energies. I do like that way of putting it.
