I talked to my psychologist briefly about aphantasia when she suggested a visualisation exercise. I told her that I can't really visualise imagery, and asked if she has had any other clients like this. To my surprise, she told me that she has had many people who don't visualise traditionally and that it's pretty common, and "everyone is different".

Perhaps aphantasia is more common than the 2-3% figure, or there is a correlation between aphantasia and people who see psychologists. My bet is on the latter.

Get her to tell them about the website :)

But seriously, I think more people have this than the figures quoted, but just don't realise.

This is why i'm working so hard to get awareness and community out there. Being aware you have something isn't much good if you can't find a community.

I'll try :) Usually strapped for time tho!

I think that's true; awareness is really important and this is a great community!

Exactly, but to some people who have just found out, there can be panic.

There will always be someone who has just found out, so the more information and support we can offer here the better.

At the end of the day, people need to be "ok" with themselves. Of course Lao Tzu and company were pointing that out two millennium ago. So this website can certainly play a critical role in having a sense of healthy self identity. The other day on the Aphantasia (non-imager/mental blindness) page I came across an individual who was very much experiencing crisis, in part because of aphantasia, but in part over some traumatic life experience, but a big part of that was transience and the inability to visually remember childhood experiences. These forums are a fairly powerful tool when it comes to reaching out for support, especially since it may take some time for it to become more common knowledge amongst therapists, not all sadly are as attentive and inquisitive as Glados's.
